Take a moment. Untie your moorings to good and bad. Don’t think of a destination. Put pen to paper and set yourself adrift. Relax; this voyage for yourself, not anyone else. Be present in the process. Let creativity take you away, if only for five minutes, and release you from the shores of expectations. Take this moment to simply create for yourself and to be mindful in the process.
This is my daily practice- spending anywhere from five minutes to several hours creating for the sake of the process. This is my time to forget about what is going on the rest of the week, to stop worrying over things not under my control… to just be present. When I erase the thought of an ideal piece, the act of creating is a therapeutic, often cathartic experience for me. I am building a relationship with each of my drawings, minute by minute, hour by hour- one that is free of goals and expectations.
